Nassir - A remarkable Leader

Among his contributions to the country,
He is notable for restoring the sovereignty.
After so many years as a British protectorate,
To gain independence he worked giving priority.
Bringing Maldive into UN, another step,
To introduce the nation to world community.
Laid foundation of tourism industry,
That was not in those days within visibility.
Next step is mechanizing fishing vessels,
Paved the way to increase fish export capability.
Introducing an English medium curriculum,
Opened the door for students to enter university.
Establishing Male' international airport,
A giant step forward to promote economic activity.
This shows his far sightedness and wisdom,
To provide all the chances for our productivity.
His countless contributions include the work,
To keep the nation as a sovereign entity.
Most of his work was done for our benefit,
Also in many fields to increase our own capacity.
Nassir passed away in Singapore at 82,
But his state funeral took place at Male' city.
People gathered to pay their last respect,
Buried in Hukuru Miskith with worthy dignity.
